Cook with Chef Poon in a commercial kitchen! In this hands-on class students will learn the fastest and healthiest way to cook -- stir fry. Learn to make a stir fry dish in Chef Poon’s Chinese Wok Station within 5 minutes including all sorts of fresh vegetables from the Asian supermarket. Chef Poon will teach Chinatown restaurant cooking techniques in his open commercial wok station.
You’ll be using secret seasonings. You will cook without MSG. You will learn to make sauces such as XO sauce, white sauce and white ginger garlic sauce, white wine sauce and also white saffron or curry sauce. You will also learn how to make various types of brown sauce from the basic sauce learning how you can make spicy garlic ginger brown sauce, or black bean sauce, and kung pao sauce all based on the basic brown sauce recipe.
You will also learn about the secret art of Chinese noodle-making, including gluten-free noodles. The selection will be comprised of Needle Noodles, Chow Fun noodles, pan fried noodles, Lo Mein noodles and Singapore noodles, as well as Har Moon and Shanghai noodles. Some of these will be featured in the stir fry dishes you learn to make.
Throughout the event, students will taste and enjoy all of their culinary creations; in addition, there are always lots of "doggie" bags to take home. BYOB, if you like. This is a terrific class for vegetarians, too!
Class includes a trip to the Asian Grocery store to learn about ingredients, herbs and their uses. Chef Joseph Poon will show students how to purchase the ingredients needed to make the dishes and will amaze students with facts about the secrets of Asian fruits, vegetables, herbs, and, of course, noodles. Recipes will include shrimp, chicken, beef or seafood.
